Singing at the Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center in Townsend TN, Saturday, April 8th, 2023. Somehow we managed to fit about 60 people into the small church building, including Kathleen’s motorized wheel chair (the building has an excellent ramp).
The church building is of great local historical interest. It was relocated to the Center from its original site near Old Sevierville Highway on the east side of Maryville near the present Asbury Place, built in 1910 as Wilders Chapel of the A.M.E. Zion Church (a historically Black denomination, “African Methodist Episcopal Zion”).
We had about five basses, six leads, eight altos, six trebles. Altos were in the liturgical east, facing the leads, with basses to the north.
