Hugh McGraw opened the singing at 10:00 A.M. by leading 120b (CHw), Spartanburg, then 34b (SH), St. Thomas, and 83 (SoH), Thorny Desert.
Harry Eskew then led 49t (SH), Old Hundred.

Following the opening songs, there was a short business meeting, during which the following officers were elected:

During the afternoon singing, a business meeting was held, and the following decisions were made:

Following a motion by Lee Rogers, it was decided to make this singing an annual event, to be named “The South Carolina State Convention in Honor of William Walker.” Voting was by show of hands. Wofford College has agreed to continue to host the convention, and the date was established as the Saturday before the second Sunday in January.

After the final song, singers adjourned to the (nearby) grave of William Walker, where we sang 341 (SH), The Lone Pilgrim.

Thanks to Will Peebles, who contributed the “Presbyterian” verses to “Northfield”, from his wonderful 1855 songbook (the “Presbyterian Psalmodist.”)
