Etowah Fall Singing

About this singing

Dan Huger recalls his first singing, which was at Etowah:

“I'm not sure when Tad Wright brought me to my first singing at Etowah, but it can't have been long after June 1984. I believe it was the last singing where we sat on the elementary lunchroom little chairs, arranged in a semi-circle, which they were used to because before the lunchroom they'd sat in the auditorium, in the straight lines. It was the next session, I think, when Scott rearranged us into the square, like the Sacred Harpers did, though he wasn't aware that although they have the altos across from the leads, Harper trebles sit on the leads' right... Anyway, I'd been to a party at Tad and Debbie's house, where there was much music making. He said, `You like to sing; you should come to a shape-note singing'; and I had no idea what he was talking about.”
