The morning session was sung from The Sacred Harp, 1991 edition.

Mike Nichols called the class to order, welcoming singers and visitors to Mountain Heritage Day. Judy Mincey led 59, Holy Manna as the first lesson, and Ken Smith gave the opening prayer. After Judy gave a brief explanation of the open square and singing parts, she led 31t, Ninety-Third Psalm.

Following announcements Kelly, David and Ed Smith led 200, Parting Hand, as the final lesson and David Smith closed in prayer.

Over the course of the day the class learned that Ed Smith, a life-long singer, expected this to be his final singing at WCU due to illness. Many family members attended and led lessons in his honor.
