George Reynolds: b. 1949, d. 2024

George Pearis Reynolds (b. 1949, d. 2024) embraced his deep roots in the Appalachian mountains he loved. He taught school in Rabun County, Georgia, as a member of the Foxfire Program, helping his studends gain an appreciation of their culture and heritage, through the Foxfire books, one of the greatest accomplishments of his life.

George continued as the instrumental music teacher at Beaumont Elementary School in Knoxville, Tennessee. George believed that music was a great equalizer and through that medium people could gain access to the skills and knowledge to live more productive and creative lives.

George was gifted with an extraordinary voice, which he used to share the music from the mountains he loved. With several of his students, he formed The Foxfire Boys band, which continues to perform today. They had the honor of playing for the Olympic Games in Norway and Atlanta, GA, and played on the Grand Ole Opry.

Drawn from his obituary.
