Website updates in July 2026

Another month in... Mississippi (well, quite a bit). The Mississippi State Sacred Harp Singing Convention is a long-running (heading to 100 years) singing that has always been multi-book, including Christian Harmony.

Warren Steel's 2017 article about singing in MS... I was intrigued by mention of “a unique practice not found elsewhere: the use of seven syllables (doremi) to name the four shaped notes.”

For this month: We've had NHC minutes in from Little Greenbrier, and Christian Harmony minutes in from NYC and Winchester (England). Take a look here.

Another jump on our songs-led tally, up to 71,353—those Mississippians, and their many guests, can sing!

A few people got pages this month: Ryan Bowman, George Easley, Emily Eddins, Ewan Eddins, Linda Funderburk, Jean Gray, Cleo Hawkins, S. T. Hawkins, Lucy Heidorn, Eddie Huckaby, Gary Poe, George Reynolds, Charley Sandage, Mark Tew, Benny Walls and Sandra Wilkinson. Find 'em via this page.

My favorite detail this month: Because a singing ran out of loaners once, they sang instead from the Harp of Ages book in the pews. That book is from my grandparents' neck of the woods. So we now have a page!
