Christian Harmony with the Cherokee Repertory Choir

Courthouse, New Echota State Historic Site
Calhoun, Gordon County, Georgia

Saturday, November 1, 2025

This singing met in conjunction with the annual Cherokee Heritage Day held at New Echota, one-time capital of the Cherokee Nation. Singing was held at the Courthouse, which served as a community gathering place in addition to hosting the sessions of the Cherokee Supreme Court beginning in 1823. This courthouse “rings like a bell” and Christian Harmony singers have enjoyed meeting there occasionally over recent decades. On this occasion, tunes from Christian Harmony were sung together with the texts from Cherokee Hymns with which they were traditionally paired. Information following the name of the tune includes the hymn number—first line in Cherokee syllabary—first line in Latin characters; and English title.
