Dollywood Singing

Robert F. Thomas Chapel
Dollywood, Tennessee

Sunday, October 15, 2017

All selections from New Harp of Columbia, Restored Edition, 2001.

Minutes of the 43rd annual singing in the Robert F. Thomas Chapel at Dollywood, October 15th, 2017. The chapel was built there in 1973 by among others our late singer Reford Laymons and his brother Wiley. It was named after Dr. Robert F. Thomas, the indefatigable Sevier County physician who assisted Dolly Parton into the world in 1946.

I counted 23 singers, not counting several in the audience who were singing. Kathleen and I were the only trebles, so Andrew Whaley sang treble with us. The audience, about 50 people at the beginning, were the singingest audience I ever saw. A number of Sacred Harp singers were present, and I checked the spelling of their names with online Sacred Harp minutes.
