Headrick Chapel Singing
Headrick Chapel
Wears Valley, Sevier County, Tennessee
Sunday, September 25, 2005
All selections from New Harp of Columbia, Restored Edition, 2001.
The annual Headrick's Chapel singing, in Wears Valley southeast of Knoxville, Tennessee, was held in Sunday, September 25th, 2005. This is the biggest singing of the year for Old Harp singers in east Tennessee, singing from the seven-note New Harp of Columbia (the 2001 "Restored Edition", a photographic copy of the 1867 New Harp of Columbia, with about 40 songs restored from the 1848 Harp of Columbia. The "A" designation - such as A162 David's Lamentation - refers to songs restored in the 2001 Restored Edition.) This year the century-old Headrick's Chapel has seen some badly needed restoration of its aging yellow poplar boards.
We welcomed a number of singers from the Sacred Harp and Christian Harmony traditions. During the singing Larry Olszewski turned over his role as moderator to Lois Headrick Luebke, who conducted the singing.

Farewell, my friends, I'm bound for Canaan,
I'm trav'ling through the wilderness;
Your company has been delightful,
You, who doth leave my mind distressed.
I go away, behind to leave you;
Perhaps never to meet again,
But if we never have the pleasure,
I hope we'll meet on Canaan's land.
